Deirdre’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Deirdre, a loving wife and mother. Deirdre was born in Newry, Northern Ireland on the 8th of December 1934, daughter of Mr. William and Marie Magowan. Unfortunately, Deirdre’s mother died when she was a year old, and it was her greatest regret that she never knew her mother. After school she enrolled in the nursing program at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, Scotland, and graduated with her RN in 1956. Thereafter she enrolled in an Orthopedic Nursing program and graduated with honours in 1958. She was married in 1960 to her loving husband David in Rostrevor, Northern Ireland, the same church in which her parents were married. Both she and her husband decided to emigrate to Yarmouth, NS in 1968. Whilst in Yarmouth she was a founding member of the Yarmouth Figure Skating Club and started a branch of the Canadian Pony Club. She was a staunch supporter of the Canadian Pony Club and became a director and served 2 years as the National Chairman. Deirdre loved animals especially horses and her little dog Percy whom she walked studiously every day. Deirdre was also a great reader and loved music, she was a member of the Yarmouth Orchestra and Beacon United Church Choir. In 2004 she and her husband moved to the Annapolis Valley to be near her daughter Alexandra, where she became a member of Holy Trinity Church and choir. She also joined the Kings Chorale which she enjoyed immensely. Deirdre will be greatly missed by her loving husband David and her three children, Alexandra (John) Beaton, Jonathan (Barbara), Nicholas (Natalia), and her grandchildren Zachariah, Owain, Nicole, Ryan, and Sean, her great grandchildren Tatum and Adeline. Cremation has taken place. Due to current pandemic restrictions, a private funeral service, by invitation only, will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Middleton. Rev. Paul Jennings and Canon Lynn Uzans officiating. Masking, hand sanitization and proof of vaccination is required. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., Middleton, NS toll free 1-855-825-3448. Donations in memory may be made to Holy Trinity Church and the Canadian Pony Club.
