Dawn Smith 1930 2022

It is with the greatest
affection that we say farewell to Myrtle Dawn Smith, born in
Fredericton, NB on April 16, 1930 to John & Helen (McCordick)
Murray. Dawn passed away peacefully on the morning of January 1st,
2022 after dedicating 91 years to bringing a smile to every face she
met. She spent her last days on Earth surrounded by family, who stayed
by her side day and night and held her hand as she prepared for her
Heavenly journey.
Dawn is lovingly remembered by
her daughter Andrea Eldridge, her son Dan Smith (Mina), grandchildren
Sonya Smith, Chantal Piepers (Geoff), Natalie Smith (Steve), Chris
Eldridge (Melannie), Robin Eldridge (Tasha), Jennifer Wolthers (Alex),
Mark Smith, 14 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren and
many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dawn was
predeceased by her husband LeBaron, sons Glen (Shirley) Smith and
Larry Smith who will be very glad to finally see his “mudder
dear” once again, son-in-law Don Eldridge, siblings Della, Jack,
Bill, Shirley, Reta and David and all of brother and
sister-in-laws.
Although New Brunswick was
always her home, Dawn built years of happy memories sharing travels
and adventures with her friends and family. When she wasn’t
on the go, Dawn was often receiving visits and phone calls from her
many well-wishers. In her later years at the Special Care &
Nursing Homes, Dawn’s family suggested she use a guest book
to keep track of her visitors. It was no surprise to any of us that
the list reached over 2000 names. Dawn enjoyed a successful career at
the Delta Beausejour, where she took great pride in using her
outstanding personality and work ethic to make every day special for
the hotel’s guests and fellow staff members. Outside of
work, Dawn used her gifts to provide support and comfort to those in
need as a volunteer at the Moncton Hospital’s Emergency
waiting room. Above all else, Dawn focused her time, energy
and love on her family as they grew steadily over the years, bringing
her joy with each new addition.
Dawn’s life was led by
faith. Throughout her life, she served as an example of Christian
devotion, kindness and decency. Her faith carried her through almost a
century of ups and downs, unwavering in times of difficulty or loss.
She inspired others to develop deeper relationships with God. She
enjoyed her time helping with the children in Sunday School.
Those who mourn her can be assured that Dawn spoke often of how she
looked forward to joining her Heavenly Father and the many loved ones
awaiting her arrival.
Dawn was known for her vibrant
and outgoing demeanor, her quick wit and above all, her warmth.
Whether you were a lifelong companion or a stranger in the grocery
aisle, she treated you like a friend. Dawn was an expert storyteller,
always ready with a memory, a story or a joke. Many of
Dawn’s stories have become famous among her loved ones and
continue to be held in our hearts and shared across generations. Even
as the effects of dementia caused increasing challenges to her health
towards the end of her life, Dawn continued brightening the days of
her caring children, her family, her good friend Maureen and anyone
who happened to cross her path. When asked how she was doing, on good
days or bad, Dawn would always tell you she was doing good, for the
age and mileage.
If the value of life can be
measured in how many hearts a person can touch, Dawn’s was
priceless. The many people that mourn her loss can take comfort in
knowing that each bit of goodness she gave to those around her is a
candle that will continue to bring us light and warmth. She would not
wish sadness for her loved ones, but would hope instead that we all
share a pleasant memory, a smile and a laugh in her honor, because as
she reminded us many times, “It makes God happy when you
share”.

Dawn’s life will be held from Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel,
