Obituary of David William Smith
Peacefully and surrounded by his family at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 the death occurred of David William Smith of Fort Augustus, age 68 years.
Beloved husband of Louise Smith (McNally). Cherished father of Darren (Melonie), Randy (Gayle) and Paula Smith. Proud grampie of Colby, Brock, Ciara and Tucker. David will be missed by his siblings Ivan (Nora), Phyllis Callaghan (Peter), Janet Jardine (Bill), Carol Thibault, Donnie, Brenda Myers (Francis), Arlene Smith (Don Taylor) and Jamie (Anne). Son-in-law of Florence McNally and brother-in-law of Diane Oraniuk, Sheila Coffin (Kevin), Leonard McNally (Bonnie), Michelle McNally, Robert McNally (Sandra). Predeceased by his parents Ivan and Millie Smith, father-in-law Leo McNally Sr., David’s sister Rita Smith and his brothers-in-law Charlie Thibault, John Oraniuk, and Leo McNally Jr.
David will be sadly missed by his family, on and off the Island, and by his fishing, ball, hockey and curling friends. His loss will be felt by the communities that supported us. The Lord has blessed us with each and every one of you.
Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford. A Funeral Mass will be held from St. Patrick’s Church, Fort Augustus on Thursday at 2:30 pm. (maximum attendance 200) Interment will take place later at St. Patrick’s Parish Cemetery, Fort Augustus. No visiting hours by request.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made online to St. Patrick’s Cemetery Fund or St. Patrick’s Parish Building Fund.
The funeral video will be available for viewing March 24, 2022 after 6 p.m.
