DAVIDSON, Roberta “Bobbie” (née McLenahan)
August 29, 1933 – March 14, 2022
With deep sadness we wish to announce that Roberta (Bobbie) Davidson passed away March 14, 2022 in Cochrane Alberta at the age of 88 years old.
Bobbie was born August 29, 1933 to John and Letha McLenahan and grew up in Kananaskis, close to the Experimental Station. Her early education was by correspondence until taking grade 8 at Sacred Hearts Girl School in Calgary and then deciding to complete grade 9 in Banff, where she won the Governor General’s Medal for Academic Excellence. During this time she read text on English Equitation and after countless hours of practice with Midge, her trusty horse, above what is now known as Canoe Flats, she and Midge won the Doris Littlewood Equestrian class for under 16.
Bobbie attended Central High in Calgary graduating grade 12, then became a legal secretary finding work at Fina Oil. This is where she met her husband Maurice. They were soon onto sitting on well-sites in Northern Alberta, eventually coming back to settle in Calgary, raising a son, John and daughter Cathy. The domestic scene allowed her to personally renovate the house, be a dedicated Sundance Pony Club parent, and volunteer while shepherding John and Cathy through their growing years.
Bobbie was forever a volunteer, lending a helping hand, or extending a sympathetic ear. Active in her church and up to all equestrian events from Pony Club, Alberta Light Horse and Spruce Meadows show jumping , Cross Country judging and running many City of Calgary horse shows, all alongside her best friend, Ruth Storey.
Bobbie was predeceased by her mother Letha McLenahan, father John McLenahan, husband Maurice Davidson and daughter Cathy Adlington. She is survived by her son John Davidson, brother John (Claudette) McLenahan, sister Norma Holden, as well as son-in-law Bob Adlington and her grandchildren Evan (Marlet), Warren, Emily (Matt),Calvin (Loren) and Charity, plus nine great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service celebrating Bobbie’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers we ask that you please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary www.alzheimercalgary.ca in her memory.
We wish to express special thanks to the staff and nurses of 800 unit at Cochrane Bethany Care Centre who took such great care of Bobbie.
