Obituary of David Ian Shoesmith
SHOESMITH, David Ian: At Juravinski Hospital on Monday, February 7, 2022, David Shoesmith passed away peacefully at the age of 81. Beloved husband and best friend of Beverley Shoesmith. Loving stepfather of Barbara Cosby (Robert), Bruce Matys (Pam), and Christine Matys-Ballinger (Andrew). Cherished grandfather of Steven Cosby (Kally), Adam Cosby (Jaclyn), Jennifer Degrow (Jim), Bryan Matys, Christopher Matys, Jacob Ballinger, Nolan Ballinger, and of five great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Peter Shoesmith (Catherine). Predeceased by brother Graham and sister-in-law Heather. David will also be missed and remembered by many family and friends and as a letter carrier at Canada Post for 25 years. Due to current Covid restrictions, visitation is required to be by booked appointment. Visitation will be held at Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Thursday, February 10. You may prebook a visitation time through the link provided in David’s obituary on the funeral home website merritt-fh.com, or call the funeral home at 905-957-7031 to prebook a time. Visitation is limited to booked times available, masks and social distancing required. A private funeral service will be held. Memorial donations to St. Luke’s Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family.
