David George Cook
September 21, 1948 – November 17, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David (Dave) G. Cook, a dear husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.
Dave is predeceased by his parents, George and Grace (nee Proksa) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; parents in law John (Jack) and Mary Courtney (nee Jones) of Mount Pearl; brother in law Bren Dalton of Cape Broyle; and nieces Michelle and Melissa.
Left to mourn are Elizabeth (Betty, nee Courtney), his wife of 52 years; beloved son David C. & fiancée Toni of Raleigh, North Carolina; daughter Nancy (his “little princess”) of Mount Pearl; and his precious grandson David J. of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister Rosemary Mazuc (George) of Sun City Center, Florida and their family; brothers in law John, Leonard (Blanche), and Jim (Bernadine) Courtney; sisters in law Eileen Dalton (Martin), Anna Walsh (Jim), and Donna Waterman (Iggy); special friends Florence and Paddy (Ed) Roche of St. John’s and Mary Carey and Joe Budden (his “shed buddy”) of Bay Bulls; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a large circle of extended family and friends in Canada and the U.S.
Dave was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served 4 years in Naval Aviation. He was also very proud of his 37 year career as a locksmith/access control specialist at both Memorial University of Newfoundland and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; as well as his involvement with The American Legion in St. John’s and Knights of Columbus in Witless Bay.
Special thanks to Father Steve for his guidance and support to Dave and family throughout his illness and upon his passing; and the staff of the Eastern Health Dialysis Center for their love and compassion during Dave’s illness.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Kidney Foundation of Canada in Dave’s memory. Memorial service will be held sometime in the New Year; details will be shared with friends and family at that time.
