It is with deep
sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of David Franklin Kersey
of Fredericton N.B. His passing occurred at Dr. Everett Chalmers
Regional Hospital on February 27, 2022. He was born in Windsor,
Ontario on December 14, 1945, to the late Roger and Rosemary
Kersey.
David worked as an
Industrial Engineer in St. Catherine’s and Thunder Bay
Ontario. He moved to Fredericton, N.B. In 1976 and loved the warmth of
the people and decided to make it his
home.
David’s
great passion was the outdoors, and he was an avid cross-country
skier, hiker and biker. He loved skiing in the UNB wood lot, at
Killarney Lake and O’Dell Park locally and hiking the trails
in Gros Morne National Park and the East Coast Trails in NL. As a
cross country skier, he was actively involved in the Wostawea Cross
Country Ski Club and their Jack Rabbit children’s
program.
Another great
interest was politics. He was very involved with the Green Party of
Canada and held the position of CEO of the Fredericton Electoral
District for the Green Party, until
recently.
David is survived
by his partner and soul mate of 46 years, Joan Shaw (nee Nielsen), her
son Jason Shaw (Jennifer) and their children Emily and Matthew of St.
John’s NL., his sister Linda Power (late Fred) and niece
Heather of Ontario. He will be sadly missed by the extended family.
David loved and nurtured the next generations and was very proud of
their accomplishments.
Cremation has been
entrusted to Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road
Fredericton. A celebration of life will be held at a later date for
family and close friends.
