Obituary
The family of the late David Bartel age 43 sadly announce his passing on April 6, 2022 in Bredenbury, SK.
David Ross Bartel was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on June 19, 1978 to Clifford & Vivian Bartel. He peacefully left us on April 6, 2022 after a painful, two year fight with lung and bone cancer.
He spent his growing up years living a carefree life with his siblings on the family farm near Saltcoats. Many happy hours were spent playing with his sisters and utilizing his imaginative mind to invent things. He loved the outdoors, and as a teenager he built an idyllic pond in the front yard amongst the evergreens. David gave his heart to God and was baptized on November 29, 1992 by Minister Martin Barkman. He embraced his faith until the end.
Some highlights in his life were time spent in his youth doing humanitarian service in Kentville, Nova Scotia and Grenada in the West Indies. David loved to sing. He had a beautiful high voice and spent many enjoyable evenings, singing with his sisters and cousins.
He spent seven years working as a carpenter for Warkentin Builders before purchasing the Langenburg Home Hardware store in 2005. He put his heart into the business and was known for going the second mile when assisting customers. His cheerful, outgoing personality won him many, many friends.
Dave married me, Elaine Mae Penner on January 22, 2006. We were blessed with just over 16 years together. Our home welcomes three sons and one daughter. We enjoyed many wiener roasts, drop-ins from friends, camping trips and countless books which we would read aloud in the evenings. His green thumb talents expanded to include flowers and a big vegetable garden that we grew together, complete with all the tomato and pepper plants he started.
Dave was known for his hearty laugh, and was always ready for a good time and a Diet Coke, but above all else he loved his family and his Saviour, Jesus. The last two years were tough. He was loath to leave us, and we hated to see him go. We give him back to God with broken hearts. The void his passing leaves is huge and one that can never be filled.
David will be sorely missed by his best friend and wife, Elaine, his children Jed (14), Joseph (12), Emma (11), and Wyatt (7).
