It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Darlene. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. Predeceased by her brother Rick in 1992, father John in 2015 and mother Hazel in 2020. She leaves, to mourn her passing, her husband Bill Newburg, daughters Andrea Plaisier and Lisa Newburg, grandsons Will and Lincoln Plaisier, sisters Susan Aldridge and Sonya (Paul) Russell as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Darlene was born and raised in Victoria and embraced her community throughout her life. She was a great friend to many and remained active until recent times. Darlene was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of Oak Bay and completed a 37-year distinguished career at CIBC where she retired as the manager of the Oak Bay branch in 2013. Darlene also enjoyed travelling, crafting, reading and gardening. She received the most joy from spending time with her family and friends. Darlene will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
We wish to thank Dr. Mursell, Dr. McGhie and staff at the cancer clinic for the care provided to Darlene during her long struggle with brain cancer.
A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Oak Bay Kiwanis Pavilion Foundation and/or the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
