Daniel Raymond Hickey Thursday August 18th 2022

The family of Daniel Raymond Hickey would like to announce the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother this past Thursday, August 18, 2022.
Originally from Glace Bay, Danny was the proud Cape Breton son of Edgar and Jessie Hickey. He is predeceased by his brothers Sandy and Peter; and sisters Beverly and Carmel. Daniel is survived by his wife Leona (Roach); children Danette, Susan (Gordon MacNeil), Darren; and grandchildren Breagh (Jake Molly) and Tyler. He is also survived by his brother Thomas Hickey (Diane) of Sydney and his sister Leone Egan of Rexton, N.B. along with many nieces and nephews.
Danny suffered with the effects of Alzheimer’s for far too many years. Despite this, he remained throughout the kind, gentle person that we always knew him to be. A lifelong Habs fan; when Danny asked you how you were doing, he really wanted to know, and it showed. Family meant everything to him and while he will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind; we are happy that he will finally be at peace.
The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the staff of Elk Court and East Cumberland Lodge for the wonderful care given to Danny during the last five years. It meant more than you can imagine.
At this time, there will be no visitation or church service. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Anyone wishing to honour Danny’s passing, is encouraged to gather a few rocks that catch your fancy and place them beneath a tree. He would have loved that.
