MacDonald, Daniel 1944-2022
It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that the family announces the recent passing of Daniel MacDonald in his 77th year on Saturday, July 9th, 2022, after his courageous battle with cancer with his wife Anne and family by his side at Health Sciences North.
Beloved husband to his beautiful wife of 57 years Anne (McGaugh) and his three children Clayton, Lana Hynes (Wade) and Lorna Markiewich (Frank). Loving Grampie and Papa to Graydon (Kate), Jordon (Hayley), Zackary, Charlie and Harrison.
Dan was the son of the late James and Gertrude MacDonald, of Little Harbour, PE. Brother of Barb O’Keefe (Richard), Souris River, PE; and David MacDonald (Annette), Hinton, Alberta. Brother-in-law of Robert McPhee and Paul Windsor. Predeceased by his sisters, Mildred MacDonald, Mary McPhee of Souris, PE, Cathy MacDonald of Hinton, Alberta and Jean Kimpton of Charlottetown, PE. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, special neighbours and friends.
Dan was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He moved his young family to Sudbury in 1970 where he found employment with Falconbridge then worked for Rainbow Concrete Ltd where he retired after 33 years of service. Dan spent most of his summers in PEI enjoying his share of lobster feasts and dancing and socializing at the weekly caleighs with Mom. He loved to reminisce about his farming and fishing days and was great to share his stories. Dan was beyond proud of his children and grandchildren, he never raised his voice and was always so gentle. Upon retirement, Dan spent his time watching old western movies and he learnt to search up videos on YouTube about tractors and fiddling. Dan had a special place in his heart for his little sister Barb, their many phone conversations will forever be cherished as they had a unique bond. He also had a special place in his heart for his cousin Theresa Baker whom he cared for deeply.
We would like to thank the many caring doctors and nurses at the Cancer Centre and Health Sciences North, with a special mention to the nurses on the 6th and 4th floor for taking such good care of our father. We felt the love and affection that was showered upon him during his short stay.
To honour Dan, the MacDonald Family will be celebrating a funeral mass on Friday July 22, 2022, 10AM at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church located at 1887 Bancroft Drive, Sudbury.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dan’s memory to the Northeast Cancer Centre.
