On October 6, 2022, our loving father and grandfather, Manfred “Fred” Daneyko passed away peacefully at the age of 92 years.
Fred was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Olga (Lelek) in 2012 and son-in-law Jim Hughes in 2022. He will be lovingly remembered by his four children, Karen (Jim), Peter (Brenda), Leanne (Alex) and Ken (Margaret); nine grandchildren Haley, Lauren, Emma, Jack, Quinn, Isabella, Roxanne, Taylor, and Shane. He will be dearly missed by his close friend Irma Henschke.
He was the eldest of nine children and is survived by his youngest sister Edeltraut and many nieces and nephews.
Dad was adventurous, coming over from Germany on his own in 1952. He travelled across the country before joining the airline industry and working for CPAir for over 30 years.
This afforded him opportunity to travel back to Germany to visit family and to travel in retirement with Olga.
He was a handyman, gardener, and good neighbour, always willing to help when he could. Dad loved following hockey and his favourite team, the New Jersey Devils. He enjoyed listening to classical music and opera. He had a fun, dry sense of humour that all enjoyed.
Until prevented by his health in recent years, he loved meeting with his weekly coffee group to help “solve the world’s problems”.
Dad’s greatest pride were his nine grandchildren and he spoke often of the good people they have all become. He will be missed by all knew him.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to all his caregivers at the Allen Gray Continuing Care Center.
A funeral service will be held Saturday October 15, 2022, at 1pm at Dayspring Presbyterian Church, 11440-40 Ave NW.
