Obituary
Reverend Cyril (Jack) Mercer, B.A., M.Div.
Age 95 years.
Passed peacefully in his sleep in the presence of his loving wife of 70 years, on December 8th. His best friend and love of his life, Nada Marie Mercer (Kirby) were inseparable as they followed their vocation in life. Born in New York, Jack came to St. John’s, NL at age seven where he continued his education. He attended Acadia University in Wolfville, Mount Allison in Sackville and Pine Hill Divinity Hall in Halifax. After ordination in 1966 he served as a United Church minister in many pastoral charges throughout NL., NS. and NB. such as Happy Valley, Springdale, Curling Corner Brook, Pasadena and Topsail. He celebrated 56 years in the ministry.
A caring, thoughtful, kind, compassionate and loving man who gave of himself to help so many, throughout the years.
Predeceased by his parents Chesley and Jen Mercer (Winsor), sister Lilly Chaytor and brother-in-Law Norm Chaytor.
Leaving to mourn with Cherished memories, life lessons and values are his wife Nada Marie Mercer, children; son Kirby Mercer and daughter Karen Brown (Tom) grandchildren; Kelsey and Kaitlyn Brown. All the Chaytor family; Cyril, Roy, Ruby, Joan, Dave, Bob and Gord. “Aunt” Effie Andrews (Winsor) and “Aunt” Blanch Burn.
Visitation will be held from 2 – 4 pm on Sunday December 11th with a funeral service to follow at 4:oo pm in the Barrets Funeral Home Chapel on 328 Hamilton Ave.
Interment To be held at a later date at the Jackson’s Cove Cemetery.
Donation in his memory to be given to the church or charity of choice.
