Obituary
It is with sad though peaceful hearts that the family of Constantinos Hountalas announce his passing on August 19, 2022 at the age of 85.
Constantinos (Gus) came to Canada in 1960 from Kandyla, Greece. The love of his life, Maria had sponsored him and once he completed his mandatory military service, he joined her in Toronto, Ontario to start a new life. He took on a variety of jobs which included working in a bakery, maintenance for the TTC and finally found his niche in Aerospace – Manager of Shipping Dangerous goods for Bombardier.
He was instrumental in creating the Greek Kandylioton Association for the many patriots who also left Greece to start a life in Canada. This gave them a sense of community and ensured that their families would grow up knowing their heritage, traditions and beauty of their homeland.
He will be fondly remembered as a well respected and admired member of the Greek community.
His smile and love of socializing will be always be on our hearts. Gus made many friends in Georgetown, while on his daily walks with his buddy, Bruiser.
He will be forever and lovingly remembered by his family; son Bill, daughter Fanitsa (Finn), son-in-law Dave, daughter-in-law Alison, grandchildren Stacey, Zoe, Jake and Taylor, fur-buddy Bruiser, nieces & nephews, and many friends.
Gus enjoyed trips to Greece to visit his sister Eleni, brother-in-law Chris, brother Panos, sister-in-law Eleni and sister Sophia from South Africa. And enjoyed many conversations with his brother Mike in the United States.
Visitation (10:30-12:30 p.m.) and Funeral Service (12:30-1:00 p.m.) will take place on Monday, August 22, 2022 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 3840 Finch Ave E, Scarborough. Burial to follow at Pine Hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough. Family and friends are invited back to St. Nicholas’ Hall after the burial to celebrate and honour the life of Constantinos Hountalas.
In lieu of flowers, there will be a cash donation box at St. Nicholas. All funds will be forwarded to the Monastery in Kandyla, Greece on his behalf. For those who would like to donate via etransfer, money can be sent to finn.housdon@gmail.com.
