Obituary
SALAHOR, Constance (Connie) Margaret (née McKenzie)
Passed away peacefully at home on January 13th, 2022, in the presence of and comforted by her husband and sons, at the age of 83 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving family; husband of 62 years Russell Salahor of Victoria, BC; 3 sons David Salahor (Donna), Brian Bartel (Fay) and Richard Salahor (Cheryl); 6 grandchildren Brandy (Rob), Lindsay, Jordan (Jaclyn), Ryan (Mackenzie), Dylan and Donovan; 5 great-grandchildren Parker, Jaxon, Myles, Ava-Nicole and Luka; Numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Connie was predeceased by her father Jack McKenzie, mother Gladys and her sister Bernice McKenna.
Connie was born in Exshaw, Alberta on January 9th, 1939. She grew up in the shadow of the Rockies eventually moving to Calgary where she met and married her life-long love Russell in 1959. In 1962, after the birth of their first two children the family moved to Costa Mesa, California, where her third son was born. Connie quickly became part of the community where she made many lifelong friends. In 1972 the family relocated back to Alberta and bought a small farm northeast of Calgary. In 1978 they moved to Maidstone, Saskatchewan and 10 years later relocated one final time to Vancouver Island, BC.
Connie worked in the insurance industry in California, as a bookkeeper for friends and family in Saskatchewan, and for VIHA’s Home Support Group on Vancouver Island. No matter where she was or what she was doing, family and friends were always her priority. She was always the first to volunteer her time no matter what the need was. She was adored by her grandchildren who always loved to be around her.
Connie loved the outdoors and especially watching her family play sports. She spent countless hours at ballparks, ice rinks and football stadiums. She was fond of fishing and whale watching off the west coast of Vancouver Island. When near a pod of Killer Whales, she was always filled with wonder and joy.
Wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She will be sorely missed by all those whose lives she touched.
For Family and Friends, a celebration of life will be held later this spring when travel and COVID restrictions allow for a safe gathering. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
