Clemens Pankoski, a gentle caring and hardworking man passed away of kidney disease on December 11, 2021 at the age of 93 years old. Clemens was born August 8, 1928 to Howard and Mary (Dlugon) Pankoski. Clemens grew up on the Pankoski family farms located in the R.M’s of Cana and Stanley. He attended the Keningsberg School in 1945 and graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Yorkton in 1948. Clemens played hockey for the Fenwood Flyers in 1949 – 1950, winning the MRHA Championship. He also played baseball for the Fenwood team and hockey and baseball for the Jedburgh Eagles. In 1954 his father and mother bought the Jedburgh Hotel. Following the passing of his father in 1959 he continued to help his mother run the Hotel until 1968. During that time, Clemens had started his own road building Construction Company. In his words “he built a lot of roads, diced a lot of land and pushed a lot of bush.” Clemens started farming in the 1960’s to the 1980’s. He found the most pleasure was in his love for horses. His favorite horse was Chance and he continued to ride horses right into his eighties. Clemens was predeceased by his parents Howard and Mary, his brothers; Elben, Morley and Victor, his sisters; Jean (in infancy) and Eveline Johnstone, his sister – in- laws; Wilma and Natusha, brother-in-law’s, Danny Johnstone and Hector Yelle and nephew David Yelle. Clemens leaves to mourn his passing, his sister Eleanor Yelle, sister-in-law Yvette, and many nephews and nieces. Clemens will be deeply missed by family and friends and all that knew him. When I Take My Last Ride When I ride my last horse. I know I’ll feel sad. With joints all stoves up, And a back that’s gone bad. I’ve rode a far piece. Since I was a kid. Living the good life. Like my Granddaddy did. It’s been horses and grass And them bovine beasts, Baked beans and black coffee And fried beef steak feasts A big hat and fine boots is my custom and Pride All that cow country culture Still sticks to my hide. I remember the old days, The bad and the good, The ways of the land All my kind understood I hope there’s still Cowboys On this range far and wide A thousand years after I take my last ride. Remember Me as you pass by.
