Obituary
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Henry Clayton Oickle which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, August 8th, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Born 1936, in Ashmore County, NS, he is the son of the late George and Frances (Thibault) Oickle. Clayton served in the Armed Forces for 20 years in Canada, Germany and Egypt. In Egypt, he was a peacekeeper for the United Nations for several years. He was also a member of the RCR Paratroopers and the RCEME. Clayton later worked for various trucking companies, the DOT and as a ferry operator before retiring in 1997. He loved sailing, painting and spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed playing crib on Sundays with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Clayton is survived by his loving and devoted wife Rita (Lawrence) of 38 years; son Bradley Oickle (Emilyn) of Abbotsford, BC, Barry Oickle (Leslie) of Saint John, Anthony Oickle (Catherine) of Winnipeg; daughter Leslie Sears (James) of Saint John; brother Owen Oickle of Cobb Hill; sisters Elsie Hill of Nova Scotia, Vera Steele of Saint John; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
Along with his parents, Clayton was predeceased by his brother Angus and sisters Gladys and Dorothy.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Saturday, August 13th from 11 to 1 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the Fundy Funeral Home chapel beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date.
Donations in memory of Clayton may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
