Clayton’s Obituary
MacMurtry, Clayton Alvah – 68 years, of Middleton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at home surrounded by family. Born in Middleton, he was the first son of the late Ivan and Phyllis (McMaster) MacMurtry. Clayton began his working career at his parent’s Western Tire Store in Middleton, at the age of 14. Having enjoyed working with his family, he went on to work at ER McMaster & Sons Sawmill in Kingston. These early jobs lead Clayton to complete a diploma in Business at NSCC in Halifax. This allowed him to begin his career at the Town of Middleton. Clayton was the Deputy Town Clerk, Director of Public Works, CAO and an elected Town Councillor. His interest in serving his local community was very strong. In addition to Clayton’s work with the town, farming was his true passion. Situated in Brooklyn, ClayMac Farm was where Clayton could be found working with livestock and crops. Over the years, Clayton raised beef cows, horses, chickens, turkeys and heritage pigs. Most recently, Clayton and Susan have grown their flock of sheep as the main focus of ClayMac Farm. His family has fond memories of animals being warmed by the fire on Lily Lake Road. In the summer, he could be found making hay to feed his livestock. A true entrepreneur, Clayton worked diligently to improve his family’s life. His “work hard” attitude is reflected in his children today. In recent years, Clayton developed a passion for sailing. He also loved riding his horse Karbon with Susan through the picturesque pastures of ClayMac Farm. Clayton will be greatly missed by his dogs Duke and Jed, and his beloved feline Rose. Clayton is survived by his loving wife Susan, his children Mark (Andrea) MacMurtry, Bedford; Jeffrey (Alain), Ottawa; Christa (Mike), Trout Lake; grandchildren Noah, Will and Lucy; brother Robert (Marlene) MacMurtry, South Farmington; nephew, Justin (Michelia), Middleton and niece Andrea (Colton), Kentville. Clayton was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Clayton and Elsie McMaster; and his paternal grandparents Alvah and Isabelle MacMurtry. The funeral service will be held 2:00pm Thursday, June 2, 2022 at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street (902) 825-3448. A private interment for family will take place following the service in the North Kingston Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will be held at 4:00pm at the Middleton Fire Hall, 49 Church Street. A live streaming of the service will be available beginning at 1:55pm ADT by selecting the “Live Stream” option at the top of the funeral home website.
