Claudette Estelle Letain
December 20, 2022
March 15th, 1938 – December 13, 2022
With deep sadness and loving memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Claudette Letain, at the age of 84 years, in Winnipeg, on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, with her family at her side.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her children, Sandra (Craig), Donald, Guy, Nicole (Kevin) and Joanne; her 11 grandchildren, Cameron, Cole, Jesse, Jamel, Jami (Matt), Justice, Brittany, Jasmin, Karsten, Veronika and Nikolas; great-grandchild, Lokhlen; and siblings, Lucien (Angeline) and Emile (Joan). Mom was predeceased by her husband, Ernest; father, Narcisse; mother, Sylvia; sister, Diane; son-in-law, Stéphane and granddaughter Payton.
On March 15th, 1938, mom was born in Ste-Rose du Lac, MB and raised on the family farm in that area. Although she grew up on a farm, mom was always more of a “city” girl. Dressed in a red dress, the beautiful blonde Claudette caught the eye of the young and handsome Ernie “Buzz” Letain. They only had eyes for each other and were married on November 23,1957 and were in a loving relationship until dad’s passing 48- and one-half years later. Dad’s career in the Canadian National Railway moved them over 25 times (with mom managing the home and kids along the way), they finally settled in Winnipeg in 1974. For most of her life mom was a homemaker and “socialite” however did work in the food service industry at an original A&W, and in the cafeterias of Brandon University and the Winnipeg Grace Hospital. She also often provided childcare services in her home and was a “strict” no nonsense lunchroom/schoolyard monitor at Golden Gate Middle School. Mom was always very proud and was known for her stylish clothing, perfectly coifed hair, and manicured nails. She loved to play cards, go bowling, play bingo, dancing with dad and talking on the phone with her friends and family. For years she went to her “exercise class” with her closest girlfriends which always turned into coffee and lunch afterwards. She enjoyed meeting friends with dad at McDonalds or Robin’s donuts for a daily coffee and muffin. Mom always made sure her kid’s birthdays were special family occasions and Christmas, one of her favourite times of the year, was when she loved to spoil her grandchildren most. You could count on mom to always have a smile on her face and join you on a road trip/drive anytime. Until her final days, mom loved to listen to old time fiddle music and still had that sparkle in her eye and chair danced when she heard the music.
Our family would like to thank the incredible staff in unit 1 (mom’s second family), particularly Sonya, at Charleswood Care Centre for the love and care provided to her in her final years.
Mom’s celebration of life will be held in the late summer of 2023 in Laurier, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in mom’s memory to the Alzheimer Society Manitoba @ Alzheimer.mb.ca.
We will miss you immensely, especially your beautiful beaming smile mom, grandma, sister (and in-law), cousin, aunt and dear friend.
