It is with great sadness that the family of Clarissa Mary (Lathigee) Keough announces her passing at the Cove Guest Home on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Main-à-Dieu on June 26, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Barney (who affectionately called her Geetsie) and Jane Ann (Lahey) Lathigee.
In 1993, Claire retired from the C.B District School Board. She was a long-time member of the Sydney Pensioners Club, Club 55 and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 128 in Whitney Pier.
Claire loved listening to music, and you would hear music playing all day long at the family’s summer cottage in Irish Vale. She took great pleasure in singing with the choir at the Pier Legion where she was also a member of the dart league. Claire was known by her family and friends for her homemade bread and tea biscuits.
Claire is survived by her husband and the love of her life for more than 70 years, Dan Keough. She is also survived by her sons, Andrew (Gail), Sydney, Cletus (Sharon), Sydney, Brian (Annette), Riverview, NB, Stewart (Colleen), Sydney and Kenzie, Sydney; brother, Damian (Phylomenia); sisters, Dolly (Bill) Skinner and Bernadette (Barry) Templeman; five grandchildren, Thomas, Nancy, Andy, Ryan and Matthew; and four great-grandchildren, Skyler, Logan, Conner and Ericka.
Besides her parents, Claire was predeceased by her son, Daniel Gregory; brothers, Stanley, Leonard, Cletus and Elden; and her sister, Kay Dwyer.
A special thank you to the staff of the Cove Guest Home for the care and kindness they showed Claire during her time there.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa’s Church in Sydney on Friday, May 27, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Veteran’s Comfort Fund or charity of choice.
