Christopher Douglas MacCormack
1974-2022
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Christopher on June 14, 2022.
Chris was born in Ithaca, New York on March 6, 1974 and was raised in Truro, Nova Scotia. He earned his Bachelor of Education from the Nova Scotia Teachers College in Physical Education and spent the majority of his career teaching and coaching a variety of sports within the Halifax Centre of Education.
Chris is survived by his daughter, Brooklyn, his son Logan, their mother and devoted friend to Chris, Danielle, his father Wilf, sister Dione (John) Woodrow, sister in law Pam, nephew Kai, and niece Kadence. He is predeceased by his mother, Colleen and twin brother, Kirt.
Chris’ greatest joy was spending time with his 2 children. He took them on countless nature walks, built them many forts, and always went sledding down the snow hill with them in the winter. He would love to take them swimming, whether in a pool or the ocean, as long as they were underwater. Always the teacher, he would impart to them his great wealth of knowledge of all things science, especially plants and animals. Whether they were outside experiencing nature firsthand or watching shows on the Discovery Channel, he would love to share as much information as he could with them. He was always so proud of his kids, and ended every phone call with a wish of “Big Hugs and Kisses”.
Chris was also an avid gardener, he felt that gardening was a wonderful way to appreciate the great outdoors while also bringing beauty into the world. He encouraged his students to remain close to nature and created gardens at various schools throughout his career.
Anyone who knew Chris knows what a big sports fan he was, especially football and hockey. Many times he would ask people not to tell him the score of the Chiefs or Senators games, so he could enjoy them the next day after he had recorded them.
On his last day Christopher was surrounded by family and childhood friends. Special thanks to the staff at the QEII floor 8.2 for the kind and compassionate assistance they provided to Chris and his family over the last few months.
Chris will be dearly missed but it gives our family comfort knowing he is now at peace with his mother and twin brother.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Chris’ life will take place, as he wished, with close friends and family. Share a memory or leave condolences at www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca
In recognition of his love for cats, memorial contributions can be made in Christopher’s name to your local SPCA.
