It is with broken hearts that we are sad to announce the sudden passing of our loving husband, father, son, brother, “fun” uncle, nephew, and friend to all. Predeceased by his father Wally (2010). Leaving to mourn: His wife Niki Ryan, son Nikolas (fiancée Kaitlyn Profiri), mother Joan, sister Sherry McGrath (Basil), nephew Kyle, niece Katie “Special K”, parents-in-law Austin and Sandi Ryan, aunt Rosie Snow, and cousin Joanne Snow. Along with the rest of the members from the Abbott, Ryan, McGrath and Bartlett families. Chris will be deeply missed by his work family from the Mary Browns Center (Mile One). There was nothing that Abbo was more passionate about than walking into the rink everyday. Whether that was for work or as Buddy. It’s something that was instilled in him from his father Wally since the old Memorial Stadium days. From giving the boys on the Growlers a hard time, to interacting with every fan who walked in the building when he was Buddy, or something as simple as giving a dressing room a fresh paint job. He truly loved it all. We can’t thank the Newfoundland Growlers and their fans enough for all the support. To the team’s staff, thank you for the opportunity you gave him to express himself as Buddy. You always made him feel like an integral part of the organization. The highlight of that being “Buddy Night” and the presentation of his Kelly Cup ring. To the players, he always felt so welcome and as if he was one of you. He always spoke about how well you treated him and thought the world of it. He was so appreciative of that. To the fans, you guys are the reason he loved being Buddy so much. The ability to put a smile on the face of a 6 year old or a 60 year old was what got him out of bed every morning. His visits to the Janeway, birthday parties, and any other special event, he was there for everyone. His impact has been felt tenfold from the outpouring of tributes on social media, along with all the texts, calls, visits and everything in between. The recognition for how special he was is amazing. Chris was happy-go-lucky, full of life, the one who always provided laughs, and wanted nothing more than to make people happy. The week before his passing he famously said in a text to a friend: “We’re all doing what we love… making people happy”. He was truly one of a kind. Cremation has taken place and he is resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, St. John’s. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, visitation and the funeral service will be private, by invitation only. However, those unable to attend in person can view the service online, Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 10:00am through the following link: vimeo.com/673696463. Donations can be made to the Janeway Foundation or SPCA in his memory. The Family will have a celebration of Chris’ life at a later date, details to follow.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Christopher Abbo Walter Abbott 2022..
