It is with deep sadness that the family of Christine Ryder (nee Baker) announce her passing on April 15, 2022 at Bonavista after a brief illness.
Christine, “Chris” to all her family and friends, was born on October 20, 1945, in Newman’s Cove to Benjamin and Gladys Baker. The fourth of six siblings.
A devoted mother, a cherished grandmother, a beloved sister and adored aunt and great-aunt, doing things for her family was her passion. We are going to miss her so much. She was a great cook and baker, from lemon pies to turkey dinners with all the trimmings. She was that friend who was all in for impromptu shopping trips to Clarenville, for driving lessons that spanned the peninsula, and berry picking outings in her most wonderful place, Newman’s Cove, with her best friend and cherished sister, Delores. She was a wonderful storyteller of times long ago when life was simple. She was an awesome teacher who had immeasurable patience and pride in her prodigies who strived to cook and bake just like her. She was an amazing grandmother who doted on her grandsons and who in turn loved her to the moon and back.
We have lost so much, but the years we shared with her are treasured gems that we will keep forever in our hearts.
Christine Mary Ryder (Chris) is predeceased by her father, Benjamin Baker, mother-in-law, Carrie Ryder, husband, Gerald Ryder, mother, Gladys Baker, brother, Bill Baker, sister-in-law, Bernice Baker, sister, Delores Martin and our beloved Sheltie, Cody.
Leaving to treasure the memories of her life well lived, daughter, Wanda and son-in-law Perry, grandsons, Benjamin and David, sisters Vera Cole and Madge (Phillip) Tremblett, brother, Chesley Baker and sister-in-law Linda, nieces and nephews, neighbors of Wells Rd and friends made throughout the years.
