Christine JOAN McDonald

It is with great sadness that her family announces the passing of Christine Joan McDonald (who was known as Joan) who passed away peacefully at James Paton Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side.
She was born and raised in Hare Bay to parents Cecil and Irene Vivian until she met the love of her life Bernard McDonald and then moved to Dover where they had three wonderful kids together. They were married 42 years and her greatest love was her family especially her four grandchildren which kept her going after losing her husband in 2019. She will be sorely missed by a large circle of family and friends that knew and loved her.
Joan has left to mourn her three beautiful children Nadine McDonald (Frazer), Murdock McDonald (Amanda), and Murdine Collins (Mark) that she had and created such a wonderful life with Bernard. Also left to mourn is her oldest child Gail and grandchildren Isabella, Austin, Alex, and Bailey who she loved with all her heart. She also had a large number of siblings Jess White, Effie Collins (Lou), Abbie (Mike), Diane Noseworthy (Kevin), Rachel Lush (Gary), Clarence Vivian (Esther), David Vivian (Marie), Nick Vivian (Sharleen), sister in law Maggie White, sister in law Shirley Collins (Murdock), Blanche Sturge, Geraldine McDonald, Margaret Moss (Cyril) , brother in law Jacob Collins, brother in law James White and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was predeceased by her loving husband Bernard, her parents Cecil and Irene Vivian, her sister Phyllis Smith, brother George White, mother in law Annie McDonald and father in law Clarence McDonald, sisters in law Ann Lyette, Maryann White, and Anita Collins, and brother in law Edgar Sturge.
Joan lived simply as a home maker and was content to spend her time caring for and raising her family who she loved and protected fiercely. She adored her husband and early in life they enjoyed dancing and going to dart tournaments where she was his biggest cheerleader, or just spending time watching t.v. or listening to music together. Once they became grandparents their love for family became even greater as they devoted all of their attention to them whenever possible. Later in life Joan enjoyed playing games on the computer or watching her favourite shows like Little House on the Prairie or Three’s Company, even if she saw them hundreds of times over she enjoyed every moment of them. Even during the last days when things were tough she reminded all of the family who surrounded her to smile which is how she should be remembered with a smile of her everlasting love and devotion she provided to all who knew her.
Visitation will be on Wednesday September 7 at the Oram’s Funeral Home in Dover Newfoundland from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with funeral service to be held at the Salvation Army Citadel in Hare Bay on September 8 at 2 p.m.
Arrangements entrusted to the care of Oram’s Funeral Home Dover.
