It is with shattered hearts that we announce the passing of Christina Perentesis. On April 9, 2022, Christina passed away peacefully at home with family by her side after battling cancer with grace and positivity for 18 months.
Christina has left a void in the hearts of many people, especially her mom, Angie Perentesis, her siblings Gina (her twin), Maria (Grigoris) and Steve (Vicky), and her “6 Little People”: Evangeline, Peter, John, Pano, Niko and George. She is predeceased by her dad, Peter Perentesis.
Christina was an extraordinary person: strong-willed, but respectful of opposing points-of-view. She enjoyed a good debate, but could defuse a situation with calm and logic. Her dark, often inappropriate sense of humor and willingness to laugh at herself were infectious. She could comfort people with an attentive ear, a hug, or her beautiful smile. She was generous of heart, and those who had the privilege of meeting her loved her dearly. Christina adored all animals, but had a particularly soft spot for her cats, Patch and O-ee.
Christina lived life as an adventure. She loved great food and drink, road trips, games (especially while winning), the outdoors, bonfires and fireworks. She relished family celebrations: birthdays, barbeques, baptisms. Her niece and nephews looked forward to spending time with Thea Ti Ti. She spoiled them, but was adamant that they be respectful and polite.
After receiving diplomas in the fields of Dental Assisting and Broadcast Journalism, Christina built a photography business. She excelled at telling stories through her photographs, whether they were landscapes, portraits or “selfies”. When it came to her photography, she was a perfectionist. Christina worked long hours to satisfy her passion for travel. She immersed herself in the local art, culture, language and food wherever she went. It is often said that Christina could take others with her through her stories and pictures.
Christina had a strong work ethic; whether serving you at Metro or the Family Place, she took pride in a job well done and it showed. Having spent much of her life in the food industry, Christina was a favourite of customers. She will be truly missed by her “second families”.
After her diagnosis, Christina received support and encouragement not only from her family, but the community of Huntsville-and beyond. The family would like to thank the following people who were instrumental in Christina’s care: Sunnybrook Hospital’s Oncologist, Dr. Stephanie Chang, and their amazing nurses on 5D; the wonderful nurses at Huntsville’s Closing the Gap, and especially Huntsville’s Palliative Care Team led by Dr. Deborah Harrold, whose compassion and honesty meant a great deal to Christina.
The family will welcome visitors at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 High Street, Huntsville on Wednesday, April 13 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Masks must be worn.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 14, at 1:00 p.m. A luncheon to follow at the Active Living Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Huntsville or the Muskoka Animal Rescue.
