Charles John Lindsay Hardy 1949 2022

Obituary of Charles John Lindsay Hardy
Age 73, of Martock, Hants Co., passed away at home on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, with family by his side. Born on June 13, 1949 in Huddersfield, England he was the eldest son of the late Douglas and Betty (Castle) Hardy.
Charles is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Andrea (Pearson); children, Elizabeth (Sam Dugué), Jennifer (Godfrey) Kenny and James (Denise); granddaughters, Maren, Sophia and Annie; as well as his younger brother, Neil (Sharon Collette).
Throughout his life Charles was ambitious and determined, he always loved going to school and kept in touch with his friends from New College Grammar School. He was accepted into university at the College of Estate Management, London, a part of Reading University, where he attained his degree. Charles was an active member of student life, continuing his passion for rugby and hiking, leading an expedition to the Matterhorn successfully and returning to tell the tale.
Concentration on his career came next, working in private practice and with the government before deciding to seize the moment and emigrate to Canada. This provided a whole lifetime of opportunities. Always the “go-getter” Charles made things happen and from starting out in a tent in British Columbia, working in an aluminum smelter, he rose to having his own company in Nova Scotia, Hardy Appraisals, ultimately becoming a founding member of Altus Group, a national and now world-wide appraisal evaluation company.
Nova Scotia was his home for 45 years, he remained passionate about rugby, both playing and coaching high school, the Valley Bulldogs, Dartmouth Saracens and the Windsor Machine. He continued hiking and for his 50th birthday did the “Coast to Coast” walk in England, an achievement in itself. Charles was a capable and caring horse man, riding was a family activity and he was a strong participant and active member of the Annapolis Valley Hunt, whilst also engaging in the organization of field trials events throughout the province.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a Drop In Open House will be held between 2-4 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022, in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre (masks are encouraged).
