Charles William Smelser passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the age of 73, after several months of declining health. Charles died peacefully with the love of his life Donna (Hanna) of 51 years and their children Kimberley (Bran), Charlene (Tom) and Amanda (Bud). Charles was born in Dunnville on February 15, 1949, to Floyd and Rosie (Byng). Charles was the oldest of three children, brother to Brian (Deb) and Pam (George).
Charles was a man of few words. If you asked Charles his greatest accomplishment, it wouldn’t be his career at the telephone company; it was being a husband, father and papa. He loved his family more then life. He was always there to lend a helping hand no matter how big or small it might be. Charles loved family gatherings with the grandchildren running around, Mason, Nicholas, Logan, Brianna, Wyatt and Summer, along with his faithful dog Sasha. They were truly the loves of his life.
You could always find Charles either working in the garage on his old cars or doing his family tree. He also liked working in his many gardens. Charles loved being in the outdoors, especially around family bonfires in the front yard. Growing up we always knew if you couldn’t find a screw or bolt, you always knew in one of the many cans, dad would have the one you needed.
Charles is also survived by his mother-in-law Shirley Hanna, brother in laws Rick (Jane), Ray, Kevin and many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Donald Hanna.
In keeping with Charles wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial will be held at a future date. In memory of Charles, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Kidney Foundation of Canada or Charity of your choice.
