Beckwith, Charles
Douglas “Charlie” – 71, of Truro passed away on Monday,
March 14, 2022, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre after a brief
illness. Born in Digby, he was a son of Jean (Ramsey) Beckwith and the
late Roger Beckwith.
Charlie will be
lovingly remembered by his wife, Sue (Ells) Beckwith; his children,
Scott and Teri Beckwith, his sister, Lorraine (Steven) Coffin; nephew,
Paul (Ashley); niece, Jill.
Charlie spent most of
his life in Truro. The majority of his career was spent as a
sportswriter and editor at various publications, including an
extensive stint at the Truro Daily News. His passion for
sports extended to his personal life, where he coached many baseball
teams and was involved in various fantasy sports and strat-o-matic
hockey. This passion was only equalled by his love for music of all
genres, with one of his favorite traditions being to spend a week
every summer at the Halifax Jazz Festival with his
daughter.
After a stroke in 2010
Charlie became very involved with the Colchester Stroke Club, where he
made many good friends and was an active participant in many
events.
After spending a
couple of months in the hospital over the new year, he was overjoyed
to get to spend a month at home, where he enjoyed many visits by
family and good friends as well as quality time with much-loved cat,
Chloe.
A Celebration of
Charlie’s life will be held at a later date. If so desired,
memorial donations to Colchester SPCA or a charity of choice are
welcomed. Arrangements are entrusted to Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home,
55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to
