Cecil’s Obituary
On September 27th, 2022 our hearts were broken and our lives were forever changed as our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend; Cecil Short passed peacefully away surrounded by family that loved him dearly at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre, in his 90th year.
Born in Cape Ray, on April 2nd, 1932, Cecil was the son of the late Solomon and Harriet (Carter) Short. Cecil was the last surviving member of his family. He retired from the Canadian National Railway after 36 years as a carman and crane operator. He resided with his youngest daughter; Trudy, his son-in-law; Alfie, his special granddaughter; Trisha LeRiche (Nick), and his fur buddies Koda and Kasey in Cape Ray, NL. Trudy, Alfie and Trisha will miss the bond they shared with him immensely.
He also leaves to mourn his eldest daughter; Phyllis (Gordon) Lillington, Beaumont Alta., sons; Rev. Cannon, Vernon (Maisie) Short, Flowers Cove, NL, Herman (Kathleen) Short Yellow Knife, N.W.T, Norman (Lorraine) Short, Cape Ray, NL, daughter-in-law; Marlene Short Cape Ray, NL, granddaughter; Amanda (Darryl), Andy (Kayla) Jessica, Vincent, Michael (Laura), Sabrina, Travis, Brandon, and 16 great- grandchildren, sisters in-law; Bessie Short, Melinda Osmond, Mildred Green, brother-in-law in-law; Robert Wall, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Cecil was predeceased by his wife; Annie (Wall) Short (1983), son; Morgan (2021), daughter; Sylvia (1954), father and mother in-law; Thomas and Winifred (Wall), sisters; Elizabeth (Albert Janes, Norman Wall), Selena (Emanuel) Wall, Rebecca (Clifford) Osmond, Frances (Roy) Osmond, brother; Isaac (Bridgette) Short, George (Ada) Short, Emanuel Short, James (Dulcie) Short, Ernest Short and Theodore Short and a number of brothers and sisters in-law.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28th, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at East Haven Funeral Home Inc.(downtown location) in Port aux Basques, NL. No flowers by request. Donations in Cecil’s memory can be made to the St. John Evangelist Memorial Fund or the St. James Cemetery Fund.
The celebration of life will be held on Thursday September 29th, at 2 pm from St. John the Evangelist Church, Cape Ray, NL, officiated by Rev. Faye Coffin and Rev. Cannon Vernon Short, with interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Brook TCH NL.
