Cecil’s Obituary
Cecil Emerson Vincent passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at the QEII, Halifax, at the age of 73 years.
Beloved husband, best friend and golf partner of Linda Vincent (Doan). Adored father to sons , Scott Vincent and Dwayne Vincent and to stepdaughters, Bethanie Clarke and Joy (Christopher) MaGarrey. Cherished grandfather to James MaGarrey, Ella Clarke, Smith Clarke and Zachary Vincent. Loving brother to Dorothy (Gary) Chaulk, Trixie Oakley, Walter (Helen) Vincent, Wilson Vincent, Paul (Jenny) Vincent and brother-in-law Bret Doan and loving uncle to nieces and nephews.
Cecil was born in Humbermouth, Newfoundland. He attended Memorial University of Newfoundland. He began his career as an Auditor for the Province of Newfoudland and Labrador. He then discovered his passion for managing cities. Cecil’s love of being a “City Manager” took him to the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland; Town of Labrador, Newfoundland; City of Port Colborne, Ontario and City of Cornwall, Ontario.
A tribute in the Toronto Star, June 8, 2022 says, “A consummate professional, friend, disarming, trustworthy, ethical, honest, mentor, adviser, skilled negotiator and a true gentleman who cared about people”. Throughout his career he received many awards, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, June 2012, in recognition of Cecil’s contributions to municipal government in Canada.
In honouring Cecil’s wishes cremation has taken place and at a later date internment at Oakwood Cemetary, Wainfleet, Ontario. In lieu of flowers or donations please simply go out into the world and be kind and helpful to someone daily.
