CAYER Maurice Omer September 9 2022

Joseph Maurice Omer Cayer (lovingly known as “Moe”), passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 82 on Sept 9th, 2022.
Moe will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his daughters: Lani (Kelly) and Shelly (Joe); his son Marc; his step-daughter Connie (Walter); his grandchildren: Ashly (Paul), Mitch (Karen), Brennen (Jeanine), Tandra (Nathan), and Angela; his great grandchildren Brayden, Grayson, Jordyn, Lux, Easton, Bo, and Jack; his sisters Lillian (Marshal) and Martha (Gordon); many sisters/brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Moe was predeceased by his parents: Joseph and Gertrude Cayer; his stepmother Lucienne; his loving wife Emma; his sister at birth Lucien; his brother Paul; his sister Penny; and his first wife Ann.
At the young age of 17, Moe felt it was time to see more of the world, so he and his best friend left the small town of Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan, and got hired to build railroad bridges across Western Canada. Within a few years he and his best friend got laid off and soon afterwards, found themselves down to their last dollars of savings far from home in Vancouver, British Columbia.
After failing to find new employment in Vancouver, he heard that the Canadian Air Force was not only hiring, but that they offered opportunities for travel and would also pay to further his education. As luck would have it there was a recruitment office down the street from his hotel and so he enrolled that same day and a new phase of his life began as he was stationed in Cold Lake, Alberta.
Moe was a proud military man for over 20 years and often told many stories of the pranks the men would play on each other and how he developed his entrepreneurship skills by selling rides and cigarettes to other service men to make extra money. He also developed his passions of carpentry and making wine, and even joined a barbershop quartet after he’d left the Air Force and had entered the final phase of his employment journey installing audio-visual and alarm systems in schools for the Edmonton Catholic School Board.
It was during their final couple decades in Edmonton, Alberta, that he and Emma made many memories through their adventures both near and far. Throughout his life Moe had a special way with people, and especially with children. His kindness, sense of humour, and mischievous demeanor made him a favourite uncle to more than a few nieces and nephews. And, in his last few months he took special delight in teaching a few of his great grandchildren how to sing an off-color song that I’m sure their parents hope they’ll soon forget.
Please join us in Moe’s celebration of life on September 24, 2022, 10am in Serenity Funeral Services, North Chapel, 10129 Princess Elizabeth Ave NW, Edmonton AB. Interment will follow in St. Isidore Cemetery in Plamondon, Alberta.
