Obituary of Catherine Lucille McRury, New Waterford
We, the family of Catherine Lucille (Tighe) McRury, regret to announce her passing on July 4, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 24, 1939 to the late Jack and Lena (Turnbull) Tighe, she was raised in New Victoria; one of 16 children. Catherine was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. In her early days, Ma worked as a Nanny in Boston. She returned home and met the love of her life, Don. Ma stayed at home to raise us kids until we all started school. She then went to work for New Waterford Homemakers until her retirement in 1987.
She is survived by six children; Cathy, whom she lived with, New Waterford, Neil (Debbie), Cold Lake, Teddy (Carmel), New Victoria, John, Yellowknife; grandchildren, Adam, Bradley, Devon, Justin, Quinn, Meghan, Morgan, Madisyn, Jorden, Brenden, Kegan, Emma; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Broghan, Onyx, Jordan, Merick, Jacob, Carter, Travis, Keelan, Nash, William, and Isla; sisters, Verna Lovell, Lovie Murphy and Agnes Kelly; brothers, Harry (Stella), Vince (Lorraine); sisters-in-law, Polly, Mary, Elaine, and Colleen Tighe. Mom is also survived by many beautiful nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband and love of her life, Donald; daughter, Mary, in infancy; her first grandchild, Jason McRury; great- grandson, Thomas Gouthro; sisters, Anna (Mike) Currie, Victoria (Bernie) Corbett, Willena (Billy) Hinchey, Anita (Winston) MacKenzie; brothers, Tommy, Eddie (Anita), James, Jackie, Tony, Francis; in-laws, John L. Murphy, Buddy Kelly, Horace Lovell, Arthur and Beatrice MacRury, Jim and Pauline MacRury; Best friends, Marie MacKinnon and Janice Heffernan.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 8 from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place on Saturday, July 9 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Bill Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Victoria, where she will be interred next to her husband, Donald, with her grandson, Jason. A reception will follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce (upstairs). We, the family, would like to take this time to thank Dr. L. Obadan and Dr. George Burns, the Palliative Care department, VON, Basil Sr., Kenny, Basil R. McGillivray, and Pharmasave. You’re care and compassion, not only to mom, but to us, was second to none; you treated all of us like family. We will be forever greatful.

So sad to hear of Catherine s passing. I’m remembering many games of “99”, Jim cheating of course haha, and going out to eat, lots of laughs! Hopefully catherine Jim ,anita and Winston will meet in heaven! Again my thoughts and prayers are with you all, hugs love caron
