June 14, 2022
Catherine Jeanette Pawis passed away suddenly on June 14th 2022, in the home she loved.
Catherine (Cathy) was a lifelong, gifted educator. She devoted herself to her students, colleagues, and school communities. Starting her career in Toronto, Catherine was a long serving member of the TDSB, inhabiting many roles, and ascending to the role of principal. She has served on several volunteer boards, specific to Indigenous communities. For the past ten years, Cathy has been the principal of Wasauksing Kinomaugewgamik School, passing along her love of learning to the next generation of First Nations students. Catherine was currently serving as secretary of the Kinoomaadziwin Education Body (KEB), after years in the position of Chair. Although she was an exemplary teacher and administrator, Catherine remained a student herself, always excited to learn something new.
Predeceased by mother Betty and father George, Cathy is survived by her siblings Gail, Pamela, Cameron and Steven, and sisters-in-law Michelle and Kristy. She will be sorely missed by her nieces and nephew, Nicole, Jake, Presley and Macy. She leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and members of the community that have become as close as family.
Sacred fire is burning at Wasauksing Kinomaugewgamik School, and will be transferred to Shawanaga First Nation for visitation on Sunday June 19th, beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the Rec Centre. Spiritual Ceremony and Interment to follow on Monday June 20th at 11:00 A.M.

Death notice for the town of: Parry-Sound, Province: Ontario
My condolences to family and friends of Catherine. I didn’t know her very long, but I was a staff at KEB where she was a board member. I met her at one of the conferences KEB hosted, and had brief conversations with her. I may not remember what we said to one another, but I won’t forget her warm and friendly smile while we spoke. Her positive impact on the community stretched far and wide. I may not have known her long, but I have felt it too. Rest in power, Catherine.
