Steele, Catherine Lee – Age 71, of Halifax, passed away January 20, 2022, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of Warren and Doris MacLennan. Cathy was predeceased by her parents, and sisters, Sheila and Arlie Beth. Cathy was the last surviving member of her family.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Darrell Whitman; daughter, Victoria (Terry Rhyno) Steele, Sackville; sons, Zachary (Tanya) Steele, BC; Keir (Kathy) Steele, Alberta; grandchildren, Liam Steele, Quinn Steele, Cole Rhyno and Madison Winters; step-children, Scott (Christine) Whitman, Andrew (Chelsey) Whitman and Amanda (Travis) Stuart.
Cathy spent many years in the insurance industry, working her way up from the mailroom to injury claim adjuster. Along the way, she made many friends and especially enjoyed her travels to The Insurance Women’s Association Conventions with her dear friend, Dianne Penny. If there was trouble to be found, those two found it. With lots of laughs along the way, they enjoyed many special moments.
Cathy had a big smile for everyone she met and welcomed them with a “Hi Darling”, even long after Alzheimer’s set in. Anyone who met Cathy became a friend for life. Cathy enjoyed traveling and especially spending time with family. She also looked forward to her many trips out west to visit family. Cathy loved being a grandmother and spending time with her grandchildren was always a treat.
Special thanks to the staff of Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home, especially the fifth floor, for your compassionate and loving care of Cathy.
As per Cathy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and burial will follow at a later date in Sydney Mines.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
