Catherine Isabel “Kay ” Lane
LANE, (Ivany)(Burnett), Catherine “Kay” -Age 86 of Wynn Park Villa, Truro, formerly of Hilden, passed away peacefully July 11, 2022, with her girls by her side. Born in Glace Bay on February 23, 1936, to the late Grace (McKenzie) and Louis Burnett, Kay was the eldest of five siblings.
She is survived by son, David Ivany (Joyce); grandson, Michael David Kane (Shannon) and their children, April and MJ; granddaughter, Merilee Kalyta (Stephen) and their children, Porter and Emma; brother, Buddy Burnett and special friend, Janice Newcombe.
Besides her parents, Kay was predeceased by her first husband, Willis Ivany; second husband, Ron Lane; daughter, Grace Kane (Michael); siblings, Flo, Dolly, Buster, and special cousin, Danny McKenzie.
She spent her whole life as a schoolteacher, the majority in Hilden, from where she retired in 1991. An educator, mentor and community-minded soul throughout her life, Kay served on the CEHD School Board, was an active member of St. John’s Anglican Church, participated in the Hilden Fireside Club, was active in the South Colchester PC party, and loved her years at Seafoam Campground.
We thank her Wynn Park family for the outstanding care over the past 5+ years, especially the compassion shown to her and “her girls” in recent days. Donations in Kay’s memory may be made to the Wynn Park Villa Recreation Program.
A celebration of life will be held in the Hilden Cemetery on Sunday, September 11th at 2 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. Online condolences available at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
