MACLEOD, Catherine Ann
It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Catherine “Cathy” MacLeod announce her passing at the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Saturday May 21, 2022, after a lengthy illness. Born on January 1, 1944, in London, UK she was the daughter of the late Allister and Mary Ann (Croxford) MacAulay.
Mom grew up in Glace Bay and would often tell stories her early years, especially her time working at the family business, MacAulay’s Henry. She enjoyed going for a drive with dad, drives that took them all over the Island, often returning home telling stories of their adventure. Mom loved hockey, especially her beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. She would never miss a game and made everyone aware when they won. When “her boys” found their way to the rink she would be the one who cheered them on the loudest, sometimes maybe too loud as she would say. She enjoyed that timesaving newspaper clippings of game results, pictures, and mementos into her scrapbook; often talking about the friendships she had made during that time.
Mom worked in various roles over the years, but she always said she found her dream job when she began working at The Cove Guest Home as a PCW, a career that lasted 20 years until an injury forced her to retire in 2007. Her time at The Cove gave her lasting memories and friendships that she treasured.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Malcolm. She is survived by her sons Terry(Lynette) Sydney, Greg (Laurie) Ontario, Patrick, Halifax, and Brian (Joleene),Sydney, daughters Marshall (Rob) Balyk, Ontario, and Debbie Oliver, Reserve Mines. Also surviving are her pride and joy’s, her grandchildren, Matthew, Emily, Breton, Lauryn, Jonathon, Jenna, Brian, Jason, Kyle, Tyler, Ty, and Cody. She loved them all dearly and enjoyed every moment she had to spend with them. Also surviving are her brother’s Terry(Barb), Ontario and William, London, UK, sister’s-in-law Mary McNeil, Florence MacLeod, & Eva MacLeod as well as many nieces and nephews. We cannot forget to mention her 2 fur babies that gave her so much joy over the past few years, Buddy and Pepe. She loved them dearly.
Thank you to the staff of the An Cala Care unit and 3B of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, The Cove Guest Home, &Glace Bay Hospital 3 West for the care you have all provided mom. Thank you also to Dr.’s McCarvill, MacKillop, MacLachlan & Archibald for your care during this time. A special thank you to Dodi Miller who looked after mom’s fur babies over the past few months. Your thoughtfulness has been truly appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. At mom’s request there will be no visitation and a private family service will take place. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice. Online condolences may be made at www.sydneymemorialchapel.com.
