Obituary Catherine Brophy
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Brophy (nee Quinlan) on July 18th, 2022, aged 88 years. She was surrounded by her family who have loved her and have been loved by her. She was born in Cappahayden and lived later in Fermeuse and then St John’s.
She was predeceased by her husband Charlie as well as her parents Edward and Margaret Quinlan, brother Edmund, and infant children Pearl, Mark, and Margaret.
Leaving to mourn her treasured family of which she was always the center; six devoted children: Gerard (Donna), Edmund, Karen Baker (Dave), Charlene, Brian (Joanne), Tom (Daisy): grandchildren Scott Brophy, Kayla Stockley, Christopher Crockwell, Krista Clowe, Jillian Leslie, Meaghan Collins, Ryan and Patrick Slaney, Mark, Laura and Kate Brophy, Madison and Hailey Brophy as well as 8 great grandchildren.
The love story of our parents was known by many and envied by all. Mom also shared her love and will be missed by her many friends, especially those she met over her 8 years at Maplewood, in particular Joni Penney, her dedicated and much-loved home care worker. Mom’s special niece, Christine Barnable was like another daughter to mom, and her life long best friend Beth Walsh was her constant telephone companion, and connection to the past, her family, and friends.
Mom was always so proud of her family and cherished her time with all of us. We are blessed to have spent a life surrounded by love.

Our mother was one of the strongest and kindest humans to grace this planet. She taught us early on it is not what we have, but what we shared, not our successes, but our significance, not our competence, but our characters that mattered.
We grew up in a family that held impromptu Jiggs Dinner get-togethers, popped champagne for the smallest celebration, and always had enough in the pot for one more. She filled our lives with a life of love and taught us to live a life that matters.
As mom took her final breath, we learned that to care for our mom who once cared for us was one of life’s finest honors.
