Caroline Anne MacDonald 2022

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Caroline MacDonald of Toronto, on June 30, 2022, at the age of 63.
She will be lovingly remembered by siblings, June (Arnold), Hector (Sandy), Herbie (Iris), Gary (Lesley-Ann) and Lila, as well as Sophie, Jimmie and the Lioutas family, who treated her like a daughter. She will also be dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews, countless friends and the staff, residents and families at Meighen Retirement Residence.
Caroline was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Isabel, and siblings, George, Christina, Evelyn, and Andrew.
Caroline always knew she wanted to live in the city. As soon as she could, she left the family farm in Sebright to embark on a path that would result in her becoming a beloved fixture in the midtown Toronto community of Davisville. Whether she was passing drinks to patrons or caring for the elderly, she spent the majority of her life in the service of others. Inspired by her mother and a passion for elder care, she enrolled in George Brown College’s Gerontology program and graduated with honours. Returning to school as a mature student changed the course of her life and positively impacted the lives of many others. She spent the final 15 years of her life leading the recreation department at Meighen Retirement Residence, caring for residents in the same nurturing manner she cared for her cherished mother. To know her was to love her. Those who did will miss her rich sense of humour, quick wit, unforgettable laugh, glowing smile, selfless generosity, creative touch and famous baked goods.
At her request, a private gathering will be held at Lake View Cemetery in Kirkfield where she will be laid to rest. Memorial donations may be made in Caroline’s name to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre’s Odette Cancer Centre or to the Caroline MacDonald Memorial Award at George Brown College. To honour her spirit, we encourage you to enjoy a glass of wine, send a card to a loved one, bake something nice, water your plants and always be kind. The family wishes to send a special thank you to Jill, Linda, Caroline, Gail, Doris, Robert and Stephen who were very important to her, and to the staff at Sunnybrook Heath Sciences Centre for the care and compassion they demonstrated over the course of the past 10 years.
