Carole June Fuller
1948-2022
Long-time Avonport resident Carole June (Skerry) Fuller, 74,
passed away in the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville on September
15, 2022 after a brief illness.
Mom was a
genuine character, with an infectious, self-deprecating and sometimes
irreverent sense of humour. She lived her entire adult life in her
home on the beautiful Bluff Road. The home was built, in part, by her
husband, Royce “John”, the long-time Kings County Councillor
who predeceased Mom in 2009.
The two married
very young and raised four children together, Dareck (Kerri Carter),
Ottawa; Shawn (Maria Cain), Dartmouth; Joel (Eranie Cottenden),
Kentville; and Meghan Strickland (Adam), Ottawa.
The young couple moved to Lower Avonport in the early 1970s and
managed to make ends meet with little money. What they did have was a
lot of love and the support of great friends and family.
Thanks to Mom, we were never hungry, never missed a
baseball or hockey game, and were always deeply cared for.
Mom had a fierce, competitive nature, and never
backed down. It showed on baseball fields and basketball courts across
Nova Scotia and Canada when she was the most enthusiastic fan in the
stands.
She, Dad and their family lived a
good life in Avonport, as the kids all grew up and gradually moved
away. Sadly, later in life, Mom and Dad were hit with an awful tragedy
when their beloved grandson Brandon, passed away at age 5. Mom was
never the same.
Years later, Mom had to learn
to face life alone when Dad passed away at the age of 62. But
gradually, over time, some of the old fire and her tremendous sense of
humour returned. She talked often with her children, her brother,
Terry and her sister, Beth, along with many good friends. And she was
happy again on the Bluff Road.
She spent much of her energy and time in her later years
repairing the house that Johnny had built and maintaining the
beautiful gardens on the property.
Thanks to
family and her great friends, Jimmy and Linda Lockhart and Murray and
Beth Corbin, Mom was able to stay in her home until the end of her
life. That is what she wanted.
She was
thrilled in one of her final acts to arrange for another generation of
Fullers to take over her home.
Mom was
predeceased by husband Johnny; grandson, Brandon and her parents,
Merle and Pauline Skerry. She was also predeceased by her
brother-in-law, Scott Schneider; her niece Katie and her nephew,
Ashley, who will always be remembered and loved.
She is survived by grandchildren, Matthew and Jarrod Fuller,
Ottawa; Chloe and Lillian Fuller, Dartmouth; Lukas Fuller, Kentville;
Josie Fuller, Bluff Road, Lower Avonport; Gabriel and Anna Fuller,
Kentville; Evan, Mitchell and Nathan Strickland, Ottawa; as well as
her sister, Beth; her nephews, Aaron, Truro, and Justin, Alberta;
niece, Chelsea, Truro; her brother, Terry (Mary-Lee) Caldwell,
Windsor; nephews, Brian, Alberta and Todd, Hantsport.
The family would also like to express our deepest
appreciation to the ICU and palliative care teams who took such
wonderful care of Mom (and all of us) in her final
days.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by
request. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday,
September 20, 2022 in the Avonport Baptist Church. A video webcast of
the service will be available at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21,
