Obituary
Carmela was born in Rosato, Valfortore on October 14,1926. Carmela is survived by her sisters Lucy and Maria. Nephews Dan (Lisa), Michael (Heather), and niece Lisa. As well as great nieces and nephews, Mercedes, Nico, Gabby, Kyle, Joey and Colby. She is predeceased by her husband Martin, brother Joseph, sister Guiseppina, sister-in-law Patricia Ann, brother-in-law Nicolo Donato and niece Anna.
Carmela came to Canada in 1955 to join her sister Lucy. Family was always the most important thing to her, so she was happy to have her sister Maria and brother Joseph make the move as well. She worked in the hospital for many years until she and Martin started their own janitorial business. She took her very limited knowledge of the English language and the lessons she learned about law from her father to create a successful business. It was her that the family would turn to for lessons in life and business, she knew all the tricks of the trade. When she wasn’t working (which wasn’t often) you would find her in her garden or possibly up the apple tree.
Although she did not have any children of her own, she was a second mom to all her nieces and nephews. If mom said no you went to her and the answer was always yes, if you had a problem, she would solve it. There was not a day in her life that she didn’t worry about each and every person she knew, she always put others before herself.
This little lady was a pillar of strength and touched the lives of everyone she met. Her family would like to extend an extra thank you to Dr Din and all the nurses at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia for the excellent care you showed her.
