It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carmel “Charlie” on December 19, 2022, with loving family by his side. He is reunited with his son Christopher and his parents Camillo and Maria (nee Bottilieri) in God’s home. Remembered by his spouse Anne Saija (nee Joch) and his daughter Lynda (Adelio Verna). Cherished grandfather to Kaitlyn, Kevin, Valerie, Cassandra, Kyle and Melanie and great grandfather of many great grandchildren. Loving brother to Pauline Grech (the late Romeo), and Nandino Saija (Vicki). Dearly remembered by his nieces Mariuccia Muscat, Fiorella Bonavia, Diana Fasulo, nephew Marco Grech and dear friend Margret DeLisle. Carmel will be remembered and missed by many friends, and family members, he will also be remembered by daughter in law, Susan Blackwood Saija, and Catherine Miskimmin Mitchell.
In 1950 Carmel came to Canada on his own from his hometown of Valletta, Malta. His brother joined him here later. He worked for Stelco for 40 years and was very proud of his service.
Carmel had a passion for music and dancing. He loved playing tennis and traveling. During his retirement snowbird years, vacationing in Florida with his dear friend Margret.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bay Gardens Funeral Home (947 Rymal Road East. Hamilton, ON). A Mass will take place at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church (416 Mohawk Rd E, Hamilton, ON L8V 2H7) on Friday, December 30, 2022, beginning at 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke would be appreciated by the family.
