It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carl Sidney Mac Donald age 58, on Friday December 2, 2022. Carl was born on April 4, 1964. He was the son of the late Earl and Marjorie “Queenie” (Richards) Mac Donald, Orangedale.
He will be sadly missed by his stepmother, Kathleen (Campbell) Mac Donald; his brother, Allan Earl Mac Donald (Rosalie), New Minas; niece, Melanie Mac Donald (Paul McCulloch), grand-nephew, Ian, Toronto, On; and Aunt Delores Martin and Uncles Buddy and Billy Richards, and Tommy and Cookie Campbell.
Carl is also survived by several Mac Donald and Richards cousins, all dear to his heart, especially close were Jackie, Janis, Nancy, John, Natasha and Jacklyn. In addition to many special friends and relatives, Carl is survived by special fur friend, Mitzi and fur puppies, Seasa and Diggity.
Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by his uncles and their wives, John Allan (Marjorie) and Sidney Grant (Carolyn) Mac Donald, and cousin, Randy Mac Donald and his wife Nancy.
Carl attended Orangedale Elementary and Mabou Consolidated Schools. Carl was special to his family and community. Always friendly and happy to meet people and lend a helping hand. He volunteered with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Arthritis Society and the Cancer Society. He was a member of Orangedale United Church picking up the collection and lighting the community candle at Forbes United Church. Carl worked at GH Smith and Sons for a brief time. Recently, Carl found friendship and joy at workshops at L’Arche Cape Breton, Orangedale. Carl loved to draw, listen to music; especially the Rankins and Shania Twain, he also enjoyed feeding the birds, and watching old shows and movies.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2022 in Forbes United Church, River Denys with M. Dale Crawford, R-DLM officiating, assisted by Jim MacNaughton, R-DLM. Interment to follow in Gillis Cove Cemetery. A reception will follow in Smith Hall, Orangedale.
The family ask that contributions be made in his memory to L’Arche Cape Breton, 3 L’Arche Lane, Iron Mines, NS B0E 2K0 or Forbes United Church, River Denys, NS B0E 2Y0, or a charity of your choice. Family flowers only.
Out of respect for family members with hyperscentivities to scents, the family ask that friends and family refrain from wearing any scented products to the service. Masks are required.
