Carla D. Petley
1954-2022
The family of Carla Dawn Petley 67, is deeply saddened by her passing
on March 4, 2022 in Riverbank NB, surrounded by her wonderful family
and a room full of love. Carla had waged a valiant struggle with
cancer and died peacefully with dignity, grace and calmness in her
mind.
Carla was born July 21, 1954 in Bath, NB and was the daughter of
Jacqueline (Ebbett) Petley and the late Thomas Petley. She was also
predeceased by her brother, Duane.
Carla received a BA in Economics from St. Thomas University, attained
a Civil Engineering Technologist certificate at NBCC in Moncton,
Architectural Studies. She spent 31 years in Edmonton, AB and had
exceptional careers with Public Works Canada, Canada Post and the
favorite one was closing out as an Asset Manager for 11 years with the
RCMP, “K’ Division, Edmonton, AB.
After significant success early in life, she found joy and immense
pleasure at work. Her accomplishment here was a 5 + year project and
came away with the unprecedented, first ever (and only) RCMP
Detachment owned and built by First Nations people on their land in
Hobbema, AB.
Carla travelled extensively in all her jobs and made hundreds of
friends wherever she went, with her work ethic, compassion and big
friendly heart. Her greatest joy was travelling to Canada’s Northern
Communities and absorbing the culture of the Inuit people. Carla was
known as The Storyteller, and her home was filled with numerous art
works, carvings, etc. Everyone had a story, which she loved to share
with all. The experiences she had with all First Nation peoples gave
her immense joy, and there is no doubt that she shared all of her love
and caring selflessly.
Carla loved her nieces, nephews and their children, and spent hours
visiting and sharing her endless stories with a memory unmatched in
fact, detail and accuracy. She will be fondly remembered by her loving
husband of 39 years, Syl Amos; 5 siblings, Dolores Petley (Daniel
Gill), Caroline DeMerchant (Terry), Noriene Caldwell, Janice Corey
(Ross) and Daniel Petley (Sheila) as well as several nieces, nephews
and extended family.
Special thanks to Dr. Clay Marco and the entire staff at the Upper
River Valley Hospital – you were terrific.
Respecting Carla’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. A
Celebration of this Fantastic Life will be held at a later date.
Donations in Carla’s memory made to DunRoamin’ Stray and Rescue would
be appreciated. L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors are entrusted with the
arrangements. www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca(506) 392-1115
