Carl Bragg 2022

Carl’s Obituary
Bragg, Carl Douglas – age 68 of Oxford, passed away peacefully at Cumberland Regional Health Care Center on Thursday, October 20, 2022. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Wendy; children, Stephen (Trina), Leanne and David; granddaughters, Taya, Ashley, Maddy, Kenzie and Audrey; mother, Doreen; sister, Janet Tizzard; brother, Darryl; many nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Carl. He was predeceased by his father, Doug; brothers, Ross and Paul. Work was his passion. In his earlier years he worked for CAT doing heavy equipment repair. He owned and operated a tractor trailer for 7 years doing regular trips all across Canada and the U.S. He then worked for Owen Davis trucking in Lower Sackville before moving to Collingwood in 1991 to work at the family business, Doug Bragg Enterprises (DBE). He later took over as president of the company. He had a drive for growth and was a wealth of knowledge in both the mechanics of the equipment and the day to day operations of the business which led to many advancements during his years as president. He highly valued the relationships he developed with many customers, colleagues and employees over the years. A special mention goes to long time colleague and friend, Peter Swinkels, for his commitment to Carl, DBE and the family over the years. Also to the late Clifford Perry of Cherryfield, Maine who was the manager of the U.S. operations for 30 years, who Carl considered one of his closest friends. Carl will be honoured as the business continues to thrive under the ownership and management of his son, Stephen. Outside of work he enjoyed the little things in life. He loved being in his truck and going for long drives with Wendy, touring the scenic routes. Until more recent years where he found happiness in staying closer to home, spending valuable time with family, and taking the opportunity to chat with friends and acquaintances in the community. He loved family gatherings where the house was full of conversation and good food. He was a proud Grampa and loved his girls with all his heart. It brought him so much joy to watch them grow, cheer them on and contribute in any way he could to ensure their happiness and success in life. His generosity was like no other. He was an amazing provider for his family and he found so much joy in giving to others. He offered support to many individuals, teams, and community organizations. During his 22 year battle with serious health issues he showed unbelievable strength and determination to defy the odds many times. A special thanks to the dialysis nurses who came to know and care for him at All Saints Springhill Hospital, and to one exceptional nurse that went above and beyond to offer the best care and support to him and the family in his final days at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. A service to celebrate Carl’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2022 in Oxford Church of the Nazarene.
