Thompson, Lorayne – Age 91 passed away peacefully
on April 26, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband Ken, parents
Charlie and Jean Brown, her brothers Leighton and Brud, and
sister-in-law Dorothy. She is survived by her son Craig and his wife
Cheryl, children Carly Reed (Logan MacDonald), Kris Reed (Jade
Guthrie) and nieces Patty Weatherbee (Allan) and Dale Swallow (Roger).
Lorayne had a zest for life and a love for family and friends, she
rarely looked back and was always excited about what the future held.
She grew up in Amherst and met Ken while he was attending Mt. A. They
moved around NS and NB before eventually settling in Riverview. She
quickly developed a circle of great friends, whose loyalty was
demonstrated each and every week when they visited her at Monarch
Hall, even after dementia had taken her ability to speak. For this we
will be forever grateful to Kaye, Sheila, Pat, Joan and Mary. Lorayne
also understood the importance of giving back to her community and did
so through multiple events and the IODE and Sorority. She might be
best remembered for her bus trips to the US, which combined her love
of cross border shopping with philanthropy. Working with her wonderful
friend Bev they raised several thousand dollars for Friends of the
Moncton Hospital. Lorayne loved children, so it seemed natural that
she would open a kindergarten in her home which ran for 25 years.
Countless children know their ABCs and how to tie their shoes because
of Mrs. Thompson. During the 70s Ken and Lorayne purchased a property
on the Amherst Shore so they could be close to friends Jean and
Foreman Smith. The cottage quickly became a place of great family
memories, but it also provided employment opportunities for the family
when they opened Craig’s Grocery. Lorayne went on to run the
store for 25+ years providing endless amounts of penny candy and ice
cream to happy neighbours. We want to thank Lorayne’s niece
Patty for your dedication, we know that Mom valued and loved every
minute together.
We would also like to thank the incredible staff at Monarch
Hall for their compassionate care, particularly during the past few
weeks when current circumstances prevented cross border
travel.
For anyone wishing to make a donation please consider Friends
