It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Burton “Burt” Vaughan announces his passing,
on February 20th, 2022, at the age of 71.
Raised in Eastern Passage/Cow Bay, where he also raised his family, Burt was the youngest son of the late
Hardy and Martha (nee Clairmont) Vaughan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Gloria (nee Negus), and three sons, Kevin (Sharon Gulliver),
Clifford (Melanie), and Cory (Heather Corkum).
Grand Dad was often a man of few words, but there was no question about the love he had for his
grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by Victoria (Geoff), Brianna (Kyle), Keegan (Brett), Cole, Josie, Colin,
Isabella, Carson and Willow, and great-grandchildren Maci, Hunter, Kohen, Callie, and baby Kori.
Along with his parents, Burt was predeceased by his brothers Dan and Lloyd.
After retiring from the Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot in 2007 (after 33 years), Burt most enjoyed
spending his days with his family and many friends. He enjoyed taste testing freshly baked goods made with
love by Gloria, and his granddaughters. His grand babies knew that he always had a stash of treats, a whiskerrub or a little tickle for their toes, ready and waiting whenever they saw him. He could often be found at Treaty,
loved going clam digging down at the dyke, and driving to the Crick to chat with the local fishermen about their
catch-of-the-day. In the eyes and hearts of his family and close friends, he was a man larger-than-life, and the
void his passing has left behind is immeasurable.
At this time, the Vaughan family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the doctors and nurses at
the Dartmouth General (4 West and ICU) and the Halifax Infirmary (Cardiac Care Unit) for the care and
compassion they showed Burt and his loved ones over the past few weeks, and especially in his final days.
Cremation and final arrangements have been entrusted to the Eastern Passage Community Funeral Home.
There will be no funeral service, however, a Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, February 26th,
from 1pm-4pm, at the Eastern Lodge 8686 Buffalo Club, Cow Bay Rd. Please note, proof of double vaccination
and masks are required.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or charity of choice. Online
condolences can be shared by visiting www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca
