Obituary
Bruce Gerald Baker was born Monday, April 9, 1945, to Vic and Mollie Baker in Brandon, MB. He grew up on a farm in the Brandon Hills area, where he was the second of six children. Bruce attended and graduated from Neelin High School in 1963.
Bruce married Lynda Darlin Stimson on June 25, 1966, and together, they welcomed and raised their two sons, Robert and Darren. In January 1972, Lynda, Bruce, Rob and Darren moved to The Pas.
In The Pas, Bruce was employed as a parts manager at Acklands, R.A.G. and Northgate Motors. While at Northgate, he decided to try his hand at Locksmithing. Bruce was self-taught and quickly became a master of the trade. In 1984, Bruce and Lynda started Baker Locksmithing and opened the Keyhut, serving customers all over northern Manitoba.
Although Bruce and Lynda’s relationship changed, they remained close friends and business partners.
Bruce was a well-known friendly face in the community. Through his roles as a locksmith, volunteer firefighter, coach, humane society member, trappers festival board member and many others, he was always there and willing to help.
Bruce met Paulette Aamot while serving on the Trappers’ Festival board, and this is where their friendship started and blossomed into a lifelong relationship.
Bruce and Paulette shared many fun times and social evenings with family and friends. Together they loved their “little home away from home” at Rocky Lake, where Bruce enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing and entertaining.
Being an avid Blue Bomber fan, Paulette introduced Bruce to the CFL. After his first live game, he was hooked, a True Blue Believer ever after. He even managed to watch the Blue Bombers repeat as Grey Cup Champions while he lay in his hospital bed in December.
Bruce was known for his easy smile, generous spirit and finding joy and simplicity in everything he did. He was loved by his family and friends, adored by his grandchildren and respected by all who knew him. He will be missed.
Bruce passed away peacefully Saturday, January 29, 2022, at the Health Sciences Centre, in Winnipeg with his partner Paulette, sister Bette and sons Rob and Darren by his side.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents Vic and Mollie; his mother and father-in-law, George and Astrid Stimson; close friend Lynda Baker; sister-in-law Dale Rae Baker; and bothers-in-law Bill Farguson and Bob Stimson.
Left to mourn are his partner Paulette; sons Rob (Wanda), Darren (April); Paulette’s children, Naomi (Don), and Marty; grandchildren, Kellie, Mackenzie, Hailey, Matthew, Aiden, Alexandra, Olivia, Aramy, Christopher (CJ) and Ally; siblings, Bette, Leona (Glen), Roy, Dixon (Sherry) and Viki (Rene), along with many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Bruce’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a come-and-go celebration of Bruce’s life will be held at Rocky Lake North Shore at a later date.
