BRIGITTE NEUMANN 1934 2022

Obituary of BRIGITTE NEUMANN
Brigitte Neumann
Our mom, Brigitte Neumann passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, June 1 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 87 years.
Mom, Oma, Omi is predeceased by her husband Juergen Neumann and brother Wolfgang Schuler and is survived by her children, Michael Neumann, Mark (Susan) Neumann, Marina (Brian) O’Leary and her six grandchildren: Dylan, Jamie, Darrell, Kurt, Jessica and Morgan and her five great grandchildren: Meadow, Willow, Lucas, Bennett and Jacob.
She also leaves behind her brother Hartle (Rosie) Schuler (British Columbia) and sister-in-law Lucie Schuler (Iowa), nieces Doris (Brian), Maloney Schuler and Diane Schuler in Iowa and nephews Peter (Zoe) Schuler, children Emily and Zach and Erick (Jill) Schuler and child Henry in British Columbia
Brigitte survived the war in Germany and once dad and mom married, they left their family and the world she knew behind in pursuit of a better life. With only a few dollars in her pockets and all her worldly possessions in a suit case, she and Tante Lu left for Canada to meet up with dad and Uncle Wolfgang who had landed in Winnipeg earlier to look for jobs and a home.
They lived in the West End until they had enough money to buy a house in West Kildonan where she raised her family and hit the jackpot when she landed a job at a German butcher shop just around the corner.
Brigitte loved spending time with her family, especially birthdays and holidays. She was so very proud of her children and all her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She always put on a great spread and had lots of recipes that became family favorites. Brigitte was hardworking her entire life, what ever she tried she excelled in. She sewed our clothes and doll clothes, she always made gingerbread at Christmas and often spent time making gingerbread houses with the grandchildren. We spent many summer driving to Green Bay, Wisconsin or Vancouver spending time with family. She loved playing in her garden and was proud of the final product. Once retired she would go to the gym at four a/m/ and walk the track, she was so proud of herself when she did her first 5 k.m. walk at the Wellness Centre. She also joined a bowling team which she so enjoyed. She did lots of travelling to visit family and friends and always had a story to tell once back home again.
Mom has a spot for the underdog and was kind and generous and opened up her home to everyone, even strangers that needed a meal and a bed to sleep in were welcome.
She was also stubborn and strong willed so if you got in her way or didn’t do what you were supposed to, look out…she would send you a letter and copy Peter Warren from CJOB.
Mom lived a full life but these last couple of years were terribly hard and we watched our mom who was always so strong and full of spirit fade away. We know you are free of pain and suffering now mom, you will finally have the peace you have been hoping for. We will all miss you and we love you and we know you love us more!! You will always be in our hearts.
There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lukes-Zion Church at 2903 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba with Pastor Lynne Hutchison presiding. Masks mandatory in church.
