Obituary
It is with heavy hearts we mourn the passing of Brian Thomas Bigattini, on March 22, 2022. On Jan 15, 1961, Brian was born and raised in Kelowna by his parents Alexander and Fay.
He displayed impressive skating skills at a young age and found a lifelong love of hockey. This he shared with his son Brock as they spent many years as big Rockets fans.
Living at Poplar Point he had Knox Mountain as a playground and the lake across the street. He spent many hours exploring and became an avid swimmer.
His love of the outdoors eventually got him into his passion for fishing, especially fly fishing. He was very proud of his impressive collection of flies. He spent all his free time fishing and going to derbies with his buddies from Revelstoke and Kelowna. Discovering a new mountain lake always brought great joy and usually big fish.
Spending time with family and friends was very important to him. He had special connections with his Uncle Reno and Aunt Flo(eppe). His greatest gift was Grandma Florence Bigattini whom he called “Mom”. Coming back into town from working he would always stop to see her first. Just to catch up and have a game of cards. They had an undeniable bond.
Brian was a strong, physical man, so it was no surprise that he would choose work that was also physical. He spent many years high lead logging in Mica and Revelstoke. This led to enduring lifelong friendships. He then tried his hand at drilling and blasting. That took him around the province from Golden to Port Alberni and Cranbrook on pipelines and then back to Kelowna. Not afraid to try something new, his next adventure took him up North to work as a miner in the Diamond mines.
In 1985 Brian discovered fatherhood for the first time when his daughter Lindy was born. Then again in 1990, his son Brock came along. Fatherhood was a proud time for him.
Although health problems plagued his last couple of years, he still loved to tell a colorful mining story and reminisce about good times with family and friends.
They say a good life is one that has really been lived. Brian lived his life to the fullest and he did it his way.
We the family will be forever grateful to his dear friend Joyce, whose love and compassion, without judgment, comforted him in his final years.
Brian is predeceased by his father Alexander Bigattini, his grandparents Florence and Egisto Bigattini, and John and Toby McLeod. He is survived by his mother Fay Nimilowicz, his sister Debbie Bigattini, nephews Colton, Joe, and Stuart, his daughter Lindy Delaurier (Ryan), granddaughter Autumn, son Brock Bigattini and stepdaughter Christy Haymes, and many cousins and aunts and uncles.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
