Obituary
The Family of Brian Cowan are saddened to announce his unexpected passing on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the age of 73 years in the Kelowna General Hospital.
Born January 21, 1949 in Kamloops to Jean (McCulloch) and William (Pat) Cowan. He was raised in Kamloops and later moved to Sicamous and Salmon Arm.
Husband, Father, Grandpa, Brother and Uncle. Brian is survived by his loving wife Holly of over 38 years, Daughter, Lindsay, son-in-law Lance Underwood and Grandson Eli (Quadra Island, BC), Son, Sean (Canoe, BC), Sister, Mary-Jane (Vancouver), Niece, Tasha, (Darren) and Great Niece, Emma (Vancouver), Niece Tiffany and great-niece Maddie, (Peachland). Predeceased by Brothers David, Pat and Bill.
Throughout his high school years, he excelled in Basketball and played for the Kamloops Red Devils.
His love of the outdoors guided his working career in Forestry, working on Fire Suppression crews for summer employment at the age of 17. After Graduating High School, he enrolled in BCIT and gained his RFT – Registered Forestry Technician degree whereby, beginning a long and very respected career within BC.
First employed with Federated Co-op, Canoe for 11 years and then starting his own Forestry Company – Amaranthus Contracting.
Brian met the Love of his life, Holly Higney in 1982 in the Slocan Valley and after a 2-year courtship, they married and settled in Sicamous in 1983.
Some of the happiest days of Holly and Brian’s lives, were living and raising their children, Lindsay and Sean. They worked hard to have a good family life with fun memories, good morals and to be caring people.
In 2003 on the verge of being empty nesters, they began a new chapter of their lives and re-settled in Salmon Arm. Brian and Dave Therrien were work partners and the best of friends for many years. They slowed down the amount of work other than Brian managing a woodlot for Dolly Tweed until his passing.
In 2005, he became the Shuswap Riding President for the BC Liberals for 17 years as well as other positions, Campaign Manager and Fundraising Manager. He was proud to be acknowledged for his efforts for the most Club 300 sold memberships in BC.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Stephan Mostowy, Operating Staff, ICU Doctors and ICU Nursing Staff for such dedicated and expertise care given to Brian.
A Memorial will be held at Bowers Funeral Service, 440 10th St. SW, Salmon Arm, BC on Saturday, August 6th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live streamed, with the recording being made available shortly thereafter.
